iRobot Combo Review

Combo is iRobot’s first mop and vacuum robot. It's also its best-looking. The top of the machine is brushed aluminum, and the iRobot Logo are more classy than the loud designs from competitors.

You can use the iRobot Home app to set up and guide your robot. The app gathers data on usage and maps of your home, including furniture and obstacles. Maps and image information are only shared if you have opted-in.

It's a mop

The Combo Irobot is a clever mopping robot that combines all the features of the great roomba irobot j7+ and adds an onboard water reservoir, a small mopping pad, and a nifty robot arm that raises and lowers the pad. It can do quite a bit of work in 11 minutes before running out of juice and automatically returning to its base station for recharge.

The model that comes with the newest irobot Home app so that you can initiate or stop cleaning runs. The robot is also stylish with a matte black material that doesn't display dust or fingerprints, and a brushed aluminium top piece that has the tiny iRobot logo.

It is a great vacuum cleaner and has no trouble crossing over large carpets or the transition strips between flooring surfaces. It's even able to capture dust particles that robotic vacuums miss. It's not the best at mowing. It's not able to completely eliminate dried milk stains, for instance unless you send it out four or five times.

IRobot's specialized Braava Jet M6 mopping robot, which is available as a bundle with the j7 Plus, often for less than the combo Combo and performs much better in this, and other difficult tasks. It can even clean up spilled wine and ketchup however I'd recommend against sending it after any kind of liquid that has a high sugar content.

It's a vacuum

It's among the more attractive robot vacuums. The top piece is smooth and doesn't display dust or fingerprints as easily as some of its competitors. Its tiny combo dustbin and water tank are easy to open and close however they're not the most efficient in terms of capacity. The Combo j7+ also has the same smarts you'd are used to from iRobot including maps and obstacle avoidance maps that work reliably and quickly. The mopping arm is the thing that makes this model stand out in its category. It keeps the mop pad hidden away on top of the vacuum, but if it spots an area that requires mopping, it lowers the pad beneath and behind the robot. This is a major improvement over other robot vacuums that require you to manually remove the mop pad to clean carpets and hard floors, or even turn the whole unit off to mop.

It's an electric charging station

Place your Combo irobot roomba vacuum cleaner on the charging station, and align the metal contacts on the base. The charging station functions well and is easy to install. During my testing it took just a few minutes for the robot's to start charging and make a sound when it was completed. Once the Combo robot is fully charged you can start an exploration run in the app to help the robot understand your home. You can also mark certain objects like cords for lamps, as permanent avoidances within the app. You can also connect your robot to Alexa or Google Assistant, so you can use voice commands to direct it around the home.

It's a smart device

Combo irobots make use of acoustic as well as onboard sensors to discover the kind of floor it's stepping on as well as the objects that are in your home. This information is paired with images from the robot’s onboard camera and maps of your home, to create an individualized plan to clean every room. It's smart enough to stay clear of your couch, lamp cords and other items you wish to keep. Of course, as with any device that is connected, there are concerns about the security of this information. But iRobot says it will never sell customer data and that the images are not taken without the consent of the customer.
